The Google Clock app isn’t very good at sounding alarms

Google Clock has been in the news lately due to a bug that causes users to miss pre-set alarms. Many Pixel smartphone users and Oppo devices reported the problem. Multiple one-star reviews were posted on the Play Store about this problem.

Although Google has fixed the bug, we want to know if this is your first experience with it. Or if the Clock app frequently misses alarms. This is how you voted in the poll.

Have your alarms been missed by Google Clock?

Our poll on the Google Clock app received nearly 13,800 votes. 62% of voters said they had missed alarms that were set via the app in the past. 33% of respondents don’t have any issues with the app’s alarm system and agree that it works every time. 5% of users experienced problems with the pre-set alarms, but they now have no issues and the function works as expected.

Elei: I had the issue only on Spotify-driven alarms. It disappeared as soon as I switched to standard alarm tones.

StygianWolf: Normally had a specific song from Spotify as the alarm with this app. It claimed that I had missed the alarm a few times. It was a different alarm that I had saved to my phone’s local file. The issue was solved.

Rob Chilton: I noticed that my ringtone alarm was working but no Spotify alarms. The app crashes when I try to change ringtones.

Tim Feldt: I haven’t had any issue. My alarm sounds one from the soundpicker. I wake up before the alarm, but that is not a problem.

Dragos Lucian: This is the type of bug that is absolutely unacceptable. For some, the alarm is not going off.

thesecondsight: I’ve never trusted smartphone alarm clocks. Since I can remember, I have been using an Atomic Alarm Clock powered by a double AA battery.

Lex1020: I kept telling my wife that I swear one of my alarms didn’t go off. My body has gotten used to getting up at the same hour for years, so I have never been late to work.

Tony Virili: I started having this issue a few days ago. The alarm will not go off if it is set to play a Spotify track and the phone is in “Flip to Shhh”. The alarm will still display that it is armed to go off today (not tomorrow), even though the time is in past.

Benjamin Haube: I can confirm this bug on my Pixel 5. In the last few weeks, I missed many alarms. My internal clock works perfectly and I wake up usually 10 minutes before my alarm goes off.

Pascal: This was the issue I experienced once. It happened because my phone had no internet and I used Youtube Music to solve it.
